08:10 am - Sketch-a-Day 007

How can you tell it's summer in England? By the tattoos. As soon as the sun comes out, acre upon acre of palid flesh criss-crossed in greeny-blue ink is unveiled. I like to think it's the awakening of sleeper agents from the Stilton Cheese people.

Recommended reading: Gipi’s Garage Band from First Second Books. Beautifully energetic and expressive watercolours illustrate the gritty tale of a group of lads and their attempt to set up a band.

11:36 am - Sketch-a-Day 005

Based on a couple I overheard outside Fortnum's.
Her: For God's sake Julian, why do you always have to be such a pitiful little worm?!
Him: ---- (a rude word)
They then stomped off to Harrods. I think if you'd peeled their skins off they would have looked like this underneath.

12:44 pm - Sketch-a-Day 001

I'm one of those people who are recessive for the self-motivation gene. So as this LJ is empty for 6 out of 7 days I thought I'd do one of those sketch-a-day projects (Mon-Sat) to fill it up a bit and pour some chili vinegar on the jellied eels of self-discipline. I'll even colour them if I've time.

c. 1987. This went a bit too far down memory lane than I normally care to go.

- I bought Tozo his own domain: http://tozocomic.com. Do take a look.
- I 've booked a table at the Birmingham Comics Show in October. Whilst I'm happy with a table by myself, I'm also happy to share in order to reduce costs. Let me know if you're interested. I am house-trained and know how to use a deodorant.
- The London Zine Symposium is today: "Bringing together zine, small press, comic and radical writers to celebrate DIY and zine culture". I'll probably pop down there, with a copy of the Daily Mail to use as a cattle prod to keep the bolshie riff-raff at arm's length.
- Beaver and Steve's James Turner is looking for a guest artist.

jabberworks just tagged me. Apparently these are the rules of this tagging:
1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
The nearest book: Nigella Lawson's "How to Eat".
"A degree of vulgarity is requisite. I soak the sponge in orange-flavoured alcohol (I loathe the acrid dustiness of standard-issue sherry), infuse the custard with orange, and make an orange caramel to sprinkle over the top; this seems to bring out the fruity, egginess of it all, even if you are reduced to using frozen fruit. I've specified raspberries but you could substitute blackberries (maybe sprinkling with a little sugar and using blackberry jam with the sponge), and I have used, too, those packets of frozen mixed berries."
[Licks fingers slowly, gives saucy look to camera, laughs all the way to bank.]
I shan't tag anyone, but feel free to participate...

Recommended read: I just finished reading David Yoder (aka
awesomeyoder)'s collected journal comics: 260 pages of gentle self-deprecating humour based on his everyday life. You can buy a copy of this excellent book here.

I've a whole bunch of posters left over from the Thing and will put them in the shop when I've sourced some card tubes for shipping. Also, Tozo chapter 1 is now available from Indyplanet
